Banned from European ports, following the sanctions of the European Union adopted on April 16, Russian boats have found a welcoming land in the Faroe Islands, this Danish autonomous territory in the North Atlantic, where they can dock freely, s notably supplying fuel and unloading their goods.
Not being a member of the European Union, the Faroese archipelago of 50,000 inhabitants is not required to apply the sanctions of Brussels.
It thus continues to open its ports to Russian fishing vessels and for its part exports its fish to Russia, not having wanted to cut ties with its first market which represents between 23 and 30% of its fishing exports, its main resource (95% of its foreign trade).
