The European Union's deputy foreign policy chief and Enrique Moreh, the head of nuclear talks, was detained at Frankfurt airport on his way back from a mediation call in Iran.
His diplomatic passport and mobiles were taken "without any explanation," he said and was released after about two hours.
A teacher, whose end to an official visit to the Islamic Republic as part of attempts to revive the nuclear deal, was detained for several hours in Germany while on his way to Brussels.
"I was detained by the German police at the Frankfurt airport on my way to Brussels, back from Tehran. They took my passport and my phones," he explained in a tweet.
There is no official explanation as to why the senior was detained and as of this writing there is no other response on behalf of the EU, and he was released along with his two colleagues.
"We were separated and refused to give us any explanation in what appears to be a violation of the Vienna Convention," a teacher wrote in a tweet.
A teacher met with Iran's deputy foreign minister this week to discuss resuming political talks over the nuclear deal after eight rounds of failed negotiations.
