150 years ago, Pierre Larousse worked "14 hours a day" on his Grand Dictionary in a pavilion in Essonne

The encyclopaedist had a pavilion built to devote himself to this monumental work. The Concy site, now the Yerres nursery


In the 19th century, many artists and personalities chose Essonne, which was then Seine-et-Oise, as a vacation spot.

Pierre Larousse, the famous encyclopaedist, was no exception to the rule.

Except that it was not to hold social salons there or even less to rest: he had a pavilion built on rue de Concy, in Yerres (Essonne), which still exists, to write a large part of his Grand Dictionnaire universelle, 22,700 pages collected in 17 volumes.
