From June 1, citizens can travel across Germany for three months with the 9-euro ticket.

Advance sales for the special ticket will start in Stuttgart on Saturday (May 14, 2022).

Stuttgart - The 9-euro ticket enables citizens throughout Germany to use local public transport at a reduced price.

The special ticket, which is intended to provide relief in the wake of rising energy and fuel prices, is available for three months.

From June 1st to August 31st you can drive all over the country.

With the 9-euro ticket, the federal government not only wants to set an incentive to save, but also to win new customers for the transport companies and associations in Germany.

The government is using 2.5 billion euros to implement the special ticket.

In Baden-Württemberg, Freiburger Verkehrs AG has already started selling and has registered a great deal of interest from the public.

In the state capital of Stuttgart, Stuttgarter Strassenbahn AG (SSB AG) is also starting to sell the 9-euro ticket a little earlier.

The special ticket is already available from Saturday (May 14) via the apps of the SSB app and the app of the Verkehrsverbund Stuttgart (VVS), as well as a print ticket on the homepage of Stuttgarter Strassenbahn AG.

From June 1st, the ticket can also be purchased at SSB machines, customer centers and sales outlets.

In order to make it easier for passengers to find their way around, they do not want to offer any weekly or monthly tickets at the machines or in digital sales in summer, apart from the 9-euro ticket, explains SSB board member Mario Laube to the

Stuttgarter Zeitung

.

Single and day tickets, on the other hand, are consistently part of the offer.

The early sale is made possible by good technical conditions, as reported by

.

The VVS has already provided detailed information on the 9-euro ticket.

Many customers who already have a subscription for public transport, for example, were primarily wondering whether they would get their money refunded when they bought the 9-euro ticket.

However, regular customers continue to benefit and also only pay nine euros for their three-month subscription.

SSB AG tries to keep customers with an additional offer

The transport sales department in Stuttgart has also come up with an additional offer that is intended to attract users of the 9-euro ticket beyond the months of June, July and August.

"Anyone who wants to continue using local public transport with a new subscription can have the price of the purchased 9-euro ticket credited to the subscription," says Mario Laube.

To do this, however, the 9-euro ticket must be purchased via an SSB sales channel or the VVS mobile app and the new subscription must have been taken out with SSB.

In the past few weeks, however, there has been repeated criticism of the special ticket.

The PRO BAHN passenger association not only fears overloaded and full trains in the summer months, but also sees more harm than good in this.

The consumer center even warns that the 9-euro ticket could become a "deterrent offer".

In order to keep customers, it also requires a permanent expansion of the offer, as other experts noted.
