After the Corona lull: Tourism in Lower Saxony is booming

The tourism industry in Lower Saxony has grown significantly compared to the previous year.

Tourism in Lower Saxony increased significantly in January and February 2022 compared to the previous year.
The industry is recovering from the consequences of the pandemic.
Hanover – Tourism in Lower Saxony is booming: Lower Saxony tourism was able to increase significantly in January and February 2022 compared to the months of the previous year.
For the first two months of this year, the State Office for Statistics Lower Saxony (LSN) reports an increase in the number of guests arriving by more than 201 percent to 924,000.
Overall, the number of overnight stays increased by 125 percent to almost 3 million.
Almost 71,000 guests came to Lower Saxony from abroad in January and February (+263 percent).
These booked a total of almost 212,000 overnight stays (+117 percent), as reported by hna.de.
Tourism in Lower Saxony is experiencing a boom compared to the previous year
However, the sometimes significant positive trends result from the unusually low values in the reference months of January and February 2021. During this period, many tourism businesses such as hotels, hostels and B&Bs were closed due to the Corona-related ban on accommodation.
In total, in the two months of January and February 2022, the majority of overnight stays were in the travel areas Lüneburger Heide, Harz and the county of Bentheim-Emsland-Osnabrücker Land.
The Lüneburg Heath travel region alone reported almost 454,000 overnight stays – an increase of around 151 percent.

The Harz holiday region recorded 421,000 overnight stays (+306 percent) and 398,000 overnight stays (+64 percent) in the Grafschaft Bentheim-Emsland-Osnabrücker Land travel region.
The number of overnight stays in January and February of this year increased the most in percentage terms, with an increase of 1073 percent on campsites.
A total of around 80,000 overnight stays were recorded here.
Camping boom: Holidays on campsites are increasingly in demand
In absolute terms, however, the number of overnight stays on campsites is relatively small compared to overnight stays in hotels.
They booked a total of almost 953,000 overnight stays (+174 percent).
