When is a skirt too short, trousers too tattered, a stomach too free?

At the Realschule Ebersberg, these questions are currently causing explosives.

Ebersberg

– The dress code is a hotly debated topic at the Ebersberg school, at least since the temperatures have become summerier and the students have been wearing looser clothes again.

The dress code is so hotly debated that there are even protests.

Students are said to have cut off their T-shirts to be bare midriffs.

They wanted to protest against the rules that apply to their classmates, which they perceive as discriminatory.

Discussion about the dress code at secondary schools: student protests

Headmaster Markus Schmidl confirms the incident, but doesn't want to know anything about discrimination.

House rules have existed since 2007 and were decided by the entire school family.

This stipulates that "obnoxious clothing" is not desired.

This applies equally to both sexes, emphasizes the teacher, who has been in charge of the house since the beginning of the school year and has been teaching there since 1998.

And the current occasion?

Teachers have complained about the clothing of individual students, says Schmidl, who explicitly points out that his school stands for a "cosmopolitan society".

But, he adds, "the right of the individual ends where others feel disturbed".

People with a migration background are also taught in his house, and there are teachers from abroad.

According to Schmidl, you have to take all cultures into account.

Dress code only for girls at school: parents are upset - we were not informed

Meanwhile, parents are upset that they were not informed about the current debate.

"Otherwise we get a message about every little thing," says a mother to EZ.

She has nothing against the dress code, but she finds the reason "difficult".

The fact that teachers would be "sexually aroused" when girls were dressed bare midriff or had too low a neckline, "that can't be the argument," says the mother.

"Commandments and prohibitions that only affect girls are not up to date," says another.

Markus Schmidl says that school is much more than just an institution for imparting learning material, school is also there for education, to prepare the children for life, which also includes consideration.

Corona did not necessarily make life easier for the educators.

Dress code at secondary school: Rector emphasizes - "School is different from the beach"

The long time in distance learning left its mark.

As far as clothing is concerned, there is a difference between being at home in online classes and going to school for face-to-face classes.

"School is different from the beach," said the headmaster, who had asked the class teachers to discuss and talk about the dress code with the students.

Some even did it with a Powerpoint presentation.

Schmidl cannot understand the current excitement.

Nothing has changed in the rules at all.
