Huang Hanzhong, director of NWFB and Citybus planning and train scheduling, said that the cross-sea route is one of the main sources of income for the two buses. After the East Rail crosses the sea, it will have a very negative impact on the revenue of the two buses. It is expected that the passenger flow will drop by 20%.

As for whether more bus lines will be reduced or suspended in the future, he said that it depends on how the passenger travel patterns will change in the future. There is no specific plan yet, but he is worried that there may be a "domino effect" that will spread to other areas on Hong Kong Island. Bus routes, describing different routes have the opportunity to change.

The cross-harbour bus route 301 from the CHT bus station to Sheung Wan only runs during the morning rush hours from Monday to Friday. Since the route completely overlaps with the railway, it was decided to cancel the route and leave the last bus at 9:13 this morning.

After saying goodbye to the East Rail 12-car imperial train last week, Hung Hom once again gathered a large number of traffic fans this morning to bid farewell to the 31-year-old bus line.

Before the departure of the first bus this morning, a large number of bus fans were waiting for the last bus at the bus station, and some office workers took the 301 line that was operating on the last day as usual after the red rain.

Wong Hon-chung said that Line 301 was opened in 1991 to help divert passengers who take the East Rail to Hung Hom Station during the morning rush hours, and then transfer to Wan Chai and the Central and Western District commercial center. This line has always been well received by the public. The train departs every five minutes, and sometimes passengers line up to the flyover at Hung Hom Station, but the cross-sea section of the East Rail Line is opened to traffic, and it is considered that 301 has completed its historical mission.

East Rail Crossing Section Opens

Huang Hanzhong continued to point out that cross-sea buses are one of the main sources of income for NWFB and Citybus. After the opening of the East Rail Transit section, it is believed that about 20% of the cross-sea passengers will be lost. He said bluntly: "It will have a very negative impact on revenue".

However, he said that there is no plan to increase the fare for the time being, and the two buses also need to examine how the passenger travel mode will change after the opening of the East Rail Transit section, and there is no specific response plan yet.

Huang continued that other bus routes on Hong Kong Island would not be ruled out. He believes that after the completion of the new infrastructure, the travel patterns of passengers may change considerably. Under the domino effect, the passenger flow will change. Quantity changes, and then decide how to arrange the route.
