Mountain again at last!

The Erlangen Bergkirchweih will take place from June 2 - 13, 2022.

All information about the cellars and reservation options can be found here.

Erlangen – This year it's time again: "The Berch is calling!".

The Erlangen Bergkirchweih can take place again in 2022 - and apparently only with a few conditions.

When it comes to beer prices, visitors will have to dig deeper into their pockets this year.

The Maß will probably reach a new record price this year.

While it was 9.50 euros in 2019, the price will probably exceed the 10 euro mark this year.

The famous breweries with their cellars are really looking forward to this year's beer festival.

beer festival:

Erlangen Bergkirchweih

Date:

June 2-13, 2022

Venue:

Southern slope of Erlangen's Burgberg

Number of visitors:

Around a million

Erlangen Bergkirchweih 2022: These cellars invite you to linger

As in the years before Corona, there is again a large selection of cellars in which the beer is stored and served.

The beer can then be enjoyed in the typical Franconian beer garden atmosphere between the trees in the vaulted cellars.

However, there will obviously not be a marquee from the Schächtner company this year.

The following cellars are included, for the most part online reservations are also possible:

  • Henninger Keller:

The largest Burgbergkeller, the only one that was expanded into a tunnel with a north entrance in 1884.

With a length of 861 meters, it is also the longest beer cellar in Erlangen.

The annual traditional beer tasting (= tapping) of the Bergkirchweih takes place in front of the cellar.

This year on June 2 at 5 p.m. with the mayor.

  • Entlas`s Keller:

Entla's Keller has been owned by the Engelhardt family since 1950.

What is special: The cellar offers a guided tour "into the interior of the Erlangen mountain - the origin of the beer city".

Reservations for the Bergkirchweih can be made at: www.entlaskeller.de or by phone: (0 91 31) 2 21 00.

  • Erich Keller:

Owned by the Erich family since 1884.

The landmark is the old linden tree in front of the cellar.

In addition, the cellar is known for its traditional closing song ("Lili Marlen") on the last Monday evening of the Bergkirchweih.

    Reservation possible at: www.erich-keller.net.

  • Steinbach Keller:

For a long time, the cellar only existed as a malthouse.

In 1995 the new owners, the Macht family, started brewing beer again.

A special feature of the Steinbach Keller are the storks, which live on the chimney of the house and raise their offspring there.

    Reservations possible at: www.steinbach-braeu.de or by phone: (0 91 31) 89 59 12.

Bergkirchweih 2022: 14 cellars offer beer serving in Erlangen

  • Helbig Keller:

In 2000 the house and the cellar were sold to the Violence family (Steinbach Bräu).

The family resumed management in 2001 under the name Helbig.

A special feature is that it is a real cellar, which even offers seating for visitors.

    Reservation possible at: www.helbig-keller.de.

  • Birkner's Cellar:

It is the easternmost cellar on the Bergkirchweih grounds.

The Kitzmann beer has been available in the bar since 1989.

The operators mainly want to appeal to the younger cellar crowd with original Erlangen Bergkirchweih beer.

    Reservation possible at: www.birkners-keller.de.

  • Weller - Keller:

After being closed for almost 100 years, the Weller brewery was brought back to life in 2013 by Adam Weller's great-grandson, Hans Kurt Weller.

  • Hartmann Keller:

It is the smallest cellar in terms of area at the Bergkirchweih.

Today he is looked after by the landlady Rosi Müller, who is also responsible for "Müller's mountain station" on the Weller Keller.

  • Hofbräu Keller:

Founded in 1729 by Georg Ernst Vierzigmann.

In 1919 the brewery took over the Hofbräu AG Bamberg-Erlangen.

Until 2005, the cellar was managed by the Steinmüller family for more than 75 years. Today it is owned by Michael Violence.

Erlangen Bergkirchweih 2022: Not all cellars offer reservations

  • Tucher Keller:

The cellar has been occupied by the Striegel family since 2017.

She continues serving at the Bergkirchweih and has set herself the goal of getting back to the roots of the Bergkirchweih and leaving the "party madness" behind.

    Reservation possible at: www.tucher.de.

  • Hübner's Cellar:

After Hans and Heinrich Hübner gave up beer production, Brauhaus AG took over the cellar.

This merged with the Nuremberg Tucher brewery in 1966.

Malt production was finally abandoned in 1970, but the Hübner name survived on the mountain.

    Reservations also at: www.tucher.de.

  • Niklas Keller:

Niklas Keller has been in the family since 1922 and has been managed by great-grandson Michael since the 2006 Bergkirchweih.

    Reservations possible at: www.niklaskeller.de.

  • Goldmann Keller:

The Goldmann Keller, formerly Kirchner Keller, has been managed by the owner and namesake Thomas Goldmann since 2008.

The cellar is described as the smallest cellar with the largest selection of beers, with the special feature of serving the only smoked beer on the mountain.

  • Old Town Shooting House:

Since 1911, the Old Town Shooting House was only operated as an inn without shooting and in 1928 it became the property of the city of Erlangen.

In 1999 the shooting house was sold to Elisabeth Bessler and Siegfried Wichert, who have been leasing it to an Italian restaurateur family since 2002 (Osteria “La vita e bella”).

Reservations possible at: Osteria “La vita è bella” (olveb.de)

However, it is also possible to visit the Erlangen Bergkirchweih without reserving a table.

There are often a lot of tables free, especially during the week.

Even with the cellars, which do not allocate tables for reservation, you have good chances.

The Rock im Park in Nuremberg can also take place again.

Everything about this year's festival can be found here.
