Switchgear is usually less attractive to look at.

In Steinebach and Stegen, however, there are now special specimens to admire.

Behind them are the artists "Lando" and Bert".

Steinebach/Stegen

– The man who was sitting on the floor right in front of the switch box on Seestrasse in Steinebach caught your eye.

In one hand he held a painting in the other spray cans.

"A lot of people approached us about the campaign," explained Melander Holzapfel alias Lando, graffiti artist from Gilching, yesterday.

It took him and his partner Bert, alias Nils Jänisch from Weimar, just under a week to give an AWA control box in Steinebach a new look on behalf of AWA Ammersee.

The duo also worked in a similarly complex manner in Stegen, also on behalf of the AWA: There, two mallards are now emblazoned on a control box.

It looks as if they have just emerged from the overgrown ivy hedge behind them.

AWA boss Maximilian Bleimaier came up with the idea: "I know this type of graffiti from Berlin and think it's good," he said yesterday.

The contact to Holzapfel came about during a spraying campaign at the Inningen market Sunday.

A big wave on the AWA building in Herrsching was followed by a whitefish and a diver on the AWA sewage pumping station in Herrsching and now finally the two boxes.

Bleimaier is very satisfied with the result.

"And we get 99 percent positive reactions." Next year, one or two boxes should be sprayed again.

"And the ones that look the ugliest."

Bleimaier has found a graffiti professional in Melander Holzapfel.

In 1999 "Lando" founded the first graffiti agency in Munich.

"But I've been spraying since 1987," says the 48-year-old.

Born in Fürstenfeldbruck, he lives in Gilching, his agency is based in Puchheim.

In 2017 he exhibited in the Gilching town hall with the aim of making graffiti art public in the district.

"Until then, this was pretty much untouched territory as far as professional graffiti art was concerned," says Holzapfel.

Since then, his and Nils Jänisch's traces can be found more and more often in the district.

Most recently, the two sprayed in the Gilching film station (we reported).

A big project is probably just around the corner in August: Then it's about the underpass at the S-Bahn station Gilching-Argelsried.

"Negotiations about the project are still ongoing," says Holzapfel.

He is not afraid that the two fresh works of art in Steinebach and Stegen could be destroyed by other sprayers.

"Anyone who likes beautiful graffiti must also tolerate illegal things," he says.

If there was a lot of bribery in a municipality, this would always be a sign.

"It is then advisable to start one or the other project and make walls available to the young people." The artists have treated the two freshly sprayed control boxes with an anti-graffiti layer.

“Then I can get rid of any scribblings better,” says Holzapfel.

The ducks and the perch were created according to exact templates.

In one night, the artists positioned a projector in the middle of Seestrasse in Steinebach to project the template onto the box.

"It caused quite a stir," says Holzapfel and laughs.

Many people spoke to him, a driver got out and had her picture taken with the artists, others praised the action and were happy.

"The box in Steinebach looked really bad before," says Lando.

It took him quite a long time to get the smear down on it.

“We've spent quite a bit of time with this box.

But it was worth it."
