When the money is no longer enough to buy food, some people go to the Tafel.

But there are problems here too.
Fewer and fewer food donations come from more and more customers.
"The reasons for this are, among other things, the more precise planning of the supermarkets and the high food prices, which is why many people are increasingly reaching for cheap products and sometimes buying them in unnecessarily large quantities in stock."

Together with her son, she has about 300 euros a month for food.
In order to make ends meet, she has been going to the Tafel since 2020.
But she's not really excited at the moment.
"There's only scrap at the table," says the native of Hamburg, who doesn't want to be named.
Hartz IV recipient: "I feel humiliated"
She throws away much that she receives at the table.
"I hate expired things," she says.
Sprouting potatoes, milk that has just expired or a soft kiwi - some products end up in the trash.
But the managing director of the Norderstedter Tafel makes it clear that the quality of the products has not changed despite the rush of customers.

Nevertheless, the Hartz IV recipient, who has been going to the table for a long time, is disappointed.

It's a pity that she can't choose things at the table herself.
She also considers the Hartz IV standard rate of 449 euros to be far too low.
According to their website, the food banks, together with other social organizations, are also demanding an immediate increase to 600 euros per month.
