The trade union proposed that KMB and Longyun should increase the basic salary of employees by no less than 5% this year, and set up a salary increase point for the monthly salary of employees.

The Hong Kong Franchised Bus Employees' General Union and the Transport Industry Committee of the AFL conducted the 2022 Salary and Expectation Survey for KMB and Long Win employees from January to May this year, and a total of 999 valid questionnaires were returned.
The results show that more than 75% of people are dissatisfied with the salary freeze in the past two years.
In terms of salary increase, 35.2% of the respondents expect an increase of 3 to 5%; 27% of the respondents expect an increase of 6 to 7%.
In terms of reasons for expecting a salary increase, 76.9% of people put inflation as the first reason for a salary increase.
In fact, in March this year, all the components of the Composite Price Index increased year-on-year, among which basic food items increased by 7.6% year-on-year.

A minimum salary increase of 5% is required

He said frankly that the driver’s job relies on long working hours in exchange for a high salary, without the “replenishment” of overtime work. Most driver’s monthly income only depends on the basic salary, which is 20 to 30% lower than the income before the epidemic.
He mentioned that the basic salary of the senior driver is not far from that of the new driver, which makes it difficult to retain talents. Therefore, KMB and Longyun proposed that KMB and Longyun should set a salary increase point for the monthly salary of employees, which is calculated as a monthly salary increase of 50 yuan. The annual salary can be increased by 1,200 yuan.
He said that he had written to KMB last week and hoped to discuss with the union as soon as possible.
If KMB does not respond, it does not rule out that it will take any form of action.

KMB clarified that according to the 2021 annual results announcement, it will record a profit after tax of about HK$100 million in 2021, a decrease of HK$100 million compared with 2020.
