An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted the coast of Peru, but no casualties were reported.

And Reuters news agency quoted the National Seismological Center of Peru as saying that the tremor struck at a depth of 49 kilometers, and its epicenter was located about 60 kilometers south of the capital, Lima.

The tremor was felt in the central coastal region and buildings were seen shaking in the capital.
