Liang Xiaojin, a 33-year-old pregnant woman, gave birth to a baby girl in Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2016. She later died of massive bleeding. The autopsy report stated that she had amniotic fluid in the blood.

The Coroner's Court held a hearing last year and ruled that the pregnant woman died unfortunately.

The family of the pregnant woman filed a lawsuit in the High Court yesterday (12th), claiming that the hospital negligently caused the pregnant woman to die, and claimed compensation from the Hospital Authority.

Plaintiff Liang Xiaojin's husband Zhong Dening and others, and the defendant is the Hospital Authority.

The complaint alleges that Liang Xiaojin gave birth and received treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital from November 28 to 30, 2016.

Due to the negligence of the defendant, Liang died, so he filed a claim against the defendant, but the amount of the claim was not specified.

An earlier coroner's hearing revealed that after giving birth to his daughter at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on November 28, 2016, Liang suffered heavy bleeding and died two days later.

Liang's family questioned at the hearing that the hospital failed to diagnose the real cause of the bleeding early.

The family's experts believe the birth was the wrong decision.

The jury ruled that Liang's death was unfortunate, and said the use of oxytocin and vacuum aspiration caused her amniotic fluid to enter the blood, causing amniotic fluid embolism to die.

Case No.: HCPI100/2022
