Behind this average, certain social categories are much more affected than others by the deterioration of their purchasing power against a backdrop of inflation and international tensions.

78% of single-parent families, 76% of 25-34 year olds and 72% of workers say that the international situation weighs on their personal finances, compared to 64% for all French people.

The French readjust their budget

The latter plan to adjust their spending accordingly.

81% of French people expect to have to restrict their essential expenses over the next twelve months.

25% of them even plan to limit themselves to heating, 23% to food and 20% to water and electricity.

Households also intend to deprive themselves of certain pleasures by giving up going out (55%), buying clothes (45%), but also traveling (41%), leisure (38%) and cultural products (36%).

“This shows that the French are not waiting and that they are preparing, on the contrary, to adapt their daily lives to get through the crisis”

To cope with rising prices, particularly energy and food, consumers should benefit from state measures in addition to those already distributed since last fall.

In accordance with Emmanuel Macron's promises during the presidential campaign dominated by the theme of purchasing power, a "purchasing power" law is in preparation for the summer in order to extend the tariff shield on gas, to index pensions and social assistance to inflation, to set up subsidies on gasoline or even a food check.
