Losses at the bridge over the Seversky Donets River hit Russian forces hard.

  • The Ukraine conflict is associated with heavy losses for Russia.

  • Now the Russian army is experiencing a disaster at Siwerskyj Donez in the Ukraine war initiated by Vladimir Putin.

  • A Ukrainian combat unit surprises a Russian battalion crossing a river.

Sieverodonetsk - It's a disaster for Russia.

In recent days, a Russian battalion attempted to cross the Severskyi Donets River in eastern Ukraine's Luhansk region - but apparently suffered heavy casualties.

Artillerymen of the 17th Tank Brigade from Kryvyi Rih are said to have struck.

In any case, the drone footage released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense appears devastating for the Russian army.

They show a destroyed pontoon bridge and wrecks of dozens of combat vehicles on the banks of the river that forms a line of defense for the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donbass.

Losses in the Ukraine War: Russia loses a battalion

Military governor Serhiy Hajdaj wrote in the Telegram news service that Russia had built a bridge to transfer military equipment and personnel across the river, but all the pontoons were destroyed along with equipment and troops.

The battle took place near the village of Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region.

"Bilohorivka is just withstanding the Russian onslaught, our defenders twice destroyed pontoon bridges."

According to US magazine Forbes, the battalion wanted to use the bridge to cross the river towards the embattled town of Lyman in the Donetsk region.

The distance between Bilohorivka and Lyman is about 60 kilometers.

According to them, part of the battalion was already on the other side when the 17th Armored Brigade of the Ukrainian Army started shelling and destroyed the pontoon bridge.

The information could not be independently verified.

Ukraine War: Russia loses up to 1000 soldiers

It remains unclear how many soldiers of the Russian battalion were wounded or killed during the battle.

Forbes did not provide any further information.

A battalion usually consists of 900 to 1200 soldiers.

However, according to the US news magazine, it can be assumed that the combat group is no longer operational due to the high loss of material.

In any case, it is another disappointment for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who, partly because of these setbacks, has already prepared for a long war.

According to British Army Intelligence, Russian forces are likely to move to the east bank of the Seversky Donets River - once they have recouped losses.
