An individual was placed in pre-trial detention on Friday May 13 in Saint-Nazaire after an anti-narcotics operation during which several kilos of drugs and numerous weapons were seized, AFP learned from the prosecution.

The police operation was carried out on Tuesday at a deal point in the Bouletterie district of Saint-Nazaire, according to the public prosecutor, Sylvie Canovas.
According to the magistrate, an individual had fled upstairs at the sight of the police and was "
carrying a backpack and a key which opened an apartment whose search allowed the discovery
" of a quantity of drugs and of weapons.
Apart from narcotics, "
125g of cocaine, 2kg of herbal cannabis
" and "
15kg of cannabis resin
", the investigators discovered "
a submachine gun and magazine, a shotgun with juxtaposed barrels 12 gauge, a pistol and charger, a 9mm automatic pistol type handgun and charger
” as well as “
3200 euros
” in cash were discovered.
Placed in police custody, the suspect, aged about twenty, of Algerian nationality and in an irregular situation, was referred to the prosecution on Friday for an opening of information, according to Sylvie Canovas.

He was indicted by the examining magistrate "
on the counts of transport, possession, acquisition, offer or sale of narcotic products, possession of category A, B and C weapons, carrying of category D weapons
" then placed in pre-trial detention, the prosecutor said in a statement.
According to the prosecutor, about thirty police officers in uniform and in plain clothes, including members of the narcotics squad and two dog handlers had been engaged in this operation which allowed a "
