Russian artillery struck at dawn on the outskirts of Bakhmout, a town in Donbass located twenty kilometers back from the front but which has recently seen war approaching.

A few hours after the explosion, a dozen soldiers left the building with its gutted sheet metal roof and loaded their gear aboard an olive-green minibus.

Not far away, a technician from the local electricity company is busy at the top of a large ladder.

His colleague, Mykol Nikolayev, comments: “

The cable was severed by shrapnel.

It happens almost every day these days.

In the early days of the war, several teams were formed to respond urgently to this type of incident.

These interventions are quite stressful, because we know that a second strike can fall in the same place, but our society grants us a small risk premium.

And then, we can't leave all these people who have chosen to stay here without electricity..."
