After a year and more than 1500 hours of work, the time has come: The Bären scouts invite you to the big car opening party on their meadow at the sports grounds of the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium.

Planegg

– The roofing felt still has to be replaced and electricity laid in the former circus wagon, and the kitchen is also missing for the time being.

Nevertheless, the scouts want to celebrate on Saturday from 4 p.m. - and say thank you: to the Planegg community, which made the new home possible for them, and the three Rovers, "who built practically 90 percent of the car for us", as clan leader Benedikt Swoboda says .

Nina Smrzka, Fabian Sommer and Sebastian Wiesemann each invested an estimated 400 hours to turn a former lion chariot into the new Planegger home of the Bären tribe.

Sometimes they worked “three days straight from Friday to Sunday” at the weekend.

The Sipplings were allowed to paint

Other Rovers, such as Swoboda himself, also helped, and the clan, the group of 12 to 16 year olds, was allowed to cancel.

The car is now pine green on the north side of the meadow behind the Planegger Eiswunder, it should be turned 90 degrees so that the front looks over to the football field and there is space behind the car to store material.

At the end of 2019, the scouts had to leave their long-standing home in the former football club house on today's Zugspitzstraße and were then homeless for the time being.

The area was opened on the grounds of the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium near the school sports field thanks to mediation by Planegger municipal councilor Adeline Spieleder and a request from the CSU parliamentary group.

In February last year, the main, finance and culture committee of the municipal council unanimously approved making the property available.

Bars of the lion cages flexed away

The scouts found an old circus wagon on Ebay, in which lions used to be kept, and towed it with a tractor from Ampfing, which is halfway to Passau, to Planegg.

Almost exactly a year ago they started fixing it up.

The bars of the former lion cages were flexed away, the metal walls removed and replaced by wood: wood on the inside, wood on the outside, with wood fiber insulation in between.

The boy scouts were unlucky with the weather: when there was a strong storm last February, the tarpaulins on the narrow sides of the vehicle and the old roofing felt tore off and the rain ran into the insulation.

“Then we always had the windows open and a heater inside.

The insulation should be in good shape at the moment,” says Swoboda.

Anyone who enters the car in the future puts their shoes in the cupboard in the space between them, which still has to be set up, and goes to the left into the lounge.

Seven white-framed windows let it appear light.

The tables and benches that are there are a donation.

The furniture from the former Neuried scout home didn't fit and is now lying behind the car to be disposed of.

To the right of the entrance is the future kitchen, with sockets but no water connection.

The boy scouts get their water in the referee's house on the school sports field and go to the toilet in Gym 1. "That's more than enough," says Swoboda.

After all, group lessons are only taking place twice a week at the moment.

The clan with its twelve to 16-year-old boy scouts meets every Wednesday from 5.30 p.m.

Point of contact since last summer

The area at the FLG became the meeting place for the 15 cubs last summer.

At that time, the car was far from usable.

The eight siblings sometimes met there, sometimes directly in the forest.

The scouts made their debut at the Planegger holiday program in September 2021: with a scavenger hunt.

"We didn't have anything here yet," says Swoboda.

It's different now.
