Several FDP members of the Bundestag Defense Committee left a meeting with Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the war in Ukraine early.
It was a group of four around the group's defense policy spokesman, Marcus Faber.
Faber then wrote on Twitter that Scholz had a chance to explain himself to the Ukraine committee.
»Unfortunately, many answers were not given.
I hope that we can catch up on this," says Faber.
“His turning point is absolutely correct.
It needs to be implemented promptly.«
Scholz was invited by committee chair Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP) in April to explain his Ukraine policy and answer questions from MPs.
Strack-Zimmermann cautiously criticized the actions of her party friends.
This is "unusual," she told the "Rheinische Post."
"I confess that I was busy chairing the meeting and didn't even notice, because I asked another question about the Finnish and Swedish NATO accession and it was very important to me that the assistance was settled." , she said.
When asked what the action meant for the coalition, the committee chair said: "Please don't hang everything up so high." She published a photo of the meeting on Twitter.
She was "glad" that Scholz accepted her invitation.
The SPD was irritated by the departure of the FDP MPs: "That surprised me," said Joe Weingarten, also a member of the committee, the SPIEGEL.
'There was absolutely no reason to go out a little upset at the time.
The Chancellor answered every question very objectively.
And it would have been an act of courtesy to stay the five minutes to the end, especially since the whole session went very calmly.«
Strack-Zimmermann, on the other hand, spoke of a very constructive conversation after the meeting: "The chancellor offered us to come back again to keep in touch with us." closer cooperation between the Chancellery and the Bundestag.
