The axes of the awareness seminar organized by Al-Sham Private University in Damascus today, in cooperation with the Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior, focused on the importance of adhering to traffic rules, maintaining traffic facilities, and the dangers of not applying the traffic law.
In a speech during the symposium titled (Your Safety), the Director of Traffic Department, Brigadier Jihad Al-Saadi, explained that 44 percent of traffic accidents are caused by excessive speed, while crossing the traffic light, drinking alcohol and using a mobile phone cause 23 percent of them, and sudden failures of mechanisms lead to 10 percent. Of the accidents and the poor technical condition of the roads by 5%, and the rest results from other traffic violations, such as driving before obtaining a driving permit, prohibited traffic, the use of dazzling lights, sudden stops, and pedestrians not being restricted to walking on the sidewalks.
Al-Saadi called for the need to enhance the traffic culture in the community for different age groups and increase traffic awareness, as well as develop and maintain the road network, traffic lights and traffic signs, and strict the process of obtaining a market permit in order to reduce the risk of accidents, stressing that spreading traffic awareness and voluntary adherence to traffic rules and regulations is a societal responsibility that can It is translated through the family, the clergy, the media, NGOs, as well as the relevant government institutions.
The symposium was attended by the Director of the Cases and Inspection Department, Major General Dr. Muhammad Al-Zoubi, the Head of the Damascus Traffic Branch, Brigadier Khaled Al-Khatib, the Head of the Damascus Countryside Traffic Branch, Brigadier Abdul-Jawad Awad, a number of members of the Traffic Media Committee, officers and members of the traffic police, the editor-in-chief of Tishreen newspaper Hani Hamdan, the President of the University, Dr. Sherif Al-Ashkar, and a number of deans colleges.
