An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale hit the Aegean Sea today off the coast of Cesme district in Izmir state, western Turkey, without announcing human casualties or material losses.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of the Turkish regime stated that "the tremor occurred off the coast of Çeşme district, at a depth of 10.62 km below the surface of the earth."
