At least seven dead after a shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo

At least seven people were killed and several were injured after a shooting at a Buffalo supermarket, according to preliminary reports.

The shooting began on Saturday afternoon at the Tops Markets store, according to sources, a man fired a rifle at customers.

Although the Buffalo Police initially announced on their Twitter account that the suspect was in custody, NBC News reports that the attacker also died and another victim is in critical condition.

The Erin County Sheriff's Office mourned the deaths following the shooting.

"We wish to convey our condolences to the families and friends of today's shooting [victims]," they posted on their Twitter account.

For her part, New York Governor Kathy Hochul wrote that she is "closely monitoring the shooting."

According to authorities, the attacker, dressed in military-style clothing, arrived at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue shortly after 2:30 pm and began firing with a rifle.

In a video, which circulates on social networks, the alleged suspect is seen when he gets out of the vehicle and begins to shoot.

As reported by the AP news agency, the supermarket where the shooting occurred is located in a predominantly black neighborhood, about 3 miles north of downtown Buffalo.

The nearby area is residential, with a Family Dollar store and a fire station near the scene of the incident.
