Recently there has been repeated vandalism at the Rettensee, which is located in the meadow breeding area in the Loisach-Kochelsee-Moor.

Benediktbeuern/Kochel am See – Vandalism is currently occurring at the Rettensee in the Loisach-Kochelsee-Moor.

The police were often on site.

The point is that the signs indicating the bathing ban are being torn out again and again, this week even several times.

Signs indicate no entry from March 20th to July 15th

The Rettensee is located in the meadow breeding area.

In order to protect the bird species that are threatened with extinction during their breeding and rearing season, you are not allowed to enter the lake and other large areas from March 20th to July 15th every year.

During this time you are only allowed to stay on certain paths in the Loisach-Kochelsee-Moor, which is one of the largest and most important retreat areas for birds in Bavaria.

The district office, more precisely the lower nature conservation authority, points this out with information boards, “stop” signs and flyers.

Visitors are also informed on the website of the district campaign "Nature conservation begins with you".

The sign thefts began at the end of March this year.

There is no evidence of the perpetrator or perpetrators.

Hunting and fishing exempt from bans

The Rettensee has been repeatedly used by locals for swimming in recent years.

Members of the responsible Kochel fishing club can also be found at the lake.

You can currently do that too.

"In almost all nature reserves, the lawful exercise of hunting and fishing is exempt from the bans," says Marlis Peischer, spokeswoman for the district office.

It is the fisherman's duty to keep an eye on the waters

With hunting and fishing comes the duty of care.

"Fishermen have a duty to check the waters, to ensure that species-rich native fish stocks are preserved and, for example, to ensure that there are no fish diseases," explains Peischer.

The members of the fishing association are aware of the special situation in the Loisach-Kochelsee-Moor, says Peischer.

"They limit themselves voluntarily during the period of meadow breeder protection." The Kochler association does not want to comment on the situation.

Bog areas should also be protected outside of the breeding season

The lake and its sensitive biotope areas should also not be affected as far as possible outside of the meadow breeding period.

The federal and Bavarian nature conservation laws form the basis.

"All actions are prohibited that lead to the surrounding moorland, the shore or the lake being significantly impaired or even destroyed," says Peischer.

Press spokeswoman expresses concerns that more people will now become aware of the lake

Peischer describes the fact that the Rettensee is now being reported on as "a dilemma": "On the one hand, you have to explain the applicable laws and grievances.

On the other hand, this first draws the attention of other people looking for relaxation to the lake,” says the spokeswoman.

"The lake would not be able to withstand an increasing pressure to relax with side effects such as footstep damage and bank failures."

"This would also affect those who have stayed there mindfully so far."
