From the outside, the listed town hall makes a decent impression.

However, the inside is no longer contemporary.

That's about to be changed.

There is a lot going on in the town hall in Geretsried.

The interior work is in progress.

Pandemic protection will remain in effect until May 20th.

Geretsried - administrative headquarters, accommodation, police station: today's town hall has already gone through many changes.

A lot is currently stirring in the more than 80-year-old monument.

In the course of the design of the "New Centre", the heart of the square should also arrive in the 21st century.

The renovation is in progress.

Individual areas, however, remain asleep.

An overview from top to bottom.

The top floor of the town hall is being energetically renovated

The roof construction of the town hall has to be structurally renewed and energetically renovated.

In one go, additional jobs for the administrative staff are created on the upper floor.

The building permit for the project has been obtained, funding has been applied for and the first trades have been advertised.

"We hope to start construction in the summer or early autumn," said spokesman Thomas Loibl when asked.

With the currently very tense situation in the construction sector, however, this could also be delayed somewhat.

"Accordingly, completion would probably not be until 2023."

The meeting room is also located under the roof.

Except for meetings, however, he has been orphaned since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The city council and its committees meet in the extension in the more spacious council chamber.

It will remain so for the time being.

"We don't want to risk anything here with the incidences still being too high," explains Loibl.

As soon as it is reasonably justifiable, the meetings should be immediately moved back to the boardroom.

"The city councilors and the administration are looking forward to returning to the large meeting room."

First floor in the town hall with the mayor's office is renewed

The interior of the town hall is progressing.

"The installation of the fire protection doors and the upgrading of the stairwell will begin in mid-May, and the mayor's area should be completed this year," says Loibl.

A lighting and signage concept for the entire building is currently being planned and will be implemented in the coming year together with the renewal of the branch corridors - including the upgrading of the ceilings, floors and walls.

The hallways and stairwell will be cleared shortly.

"Later, art will also be exhibited in a targeted manner in suitable and representative locations," announced the town hall spokesman.

A security service welcomes visitors on the ground floor

Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the only way to get to the town hall is through the main entrance.

Masks are currently still compulsory - FFP2 or medical - and there is a security service.

As the situation eases, the protective measures should be lifted from May 20th.

As far as the allocation of appointments for errands at the citizen service is concerned: It will be retained and is to be extended to other areas of administration.

The appointment management system has proven its worth for both the citizens and the colleagues, reports Loibl.

"There are no waiting times and requests can be processed quickly and in a targeted manner."

Passage in the basement still closed

The first phase of the town hall renovation has long since been completed.

The elevator that replaced the stair lift, jokingly called the “wild mouse” in the town hall, is used a great deal every day.

According to Loibl, he is a "great asset to the town hall".

Theoretically, barrier-free access from the top floor to the basement would be possible.

In fact, the ground level path to the underground car park is closed to citizens due to access control in the town hall.

In the summer of 2018, the connector from the underground car park to the town hall was created.

The city council had planned 750,000 euros in the budget for this at the time.

When the underground car park opened at the end of 2019, the corridor was not yet finished.

There was a physical problem.

Condensation formed as a result of the humid room air hitting the cold concrete walls.

The lighting and the color design of the tunnel were also missing.

In the meantime, the passage can at least be used by city hall employees, for example if they have to go to the Family, Social Affairs & Sport department, which is outsourced in the PulsG.

In perspective, the staircase could be used for exhibitions.

Architect Klaus Kehrbaum suggested that.

A corresponding upgrading lighting concept was planned.

Loibl: "There are currently no concrete plans for this."
