The German authorities banned all demonstrations commemorating the Palestinian Nakba, which were scheduled to be held in the capital, Berlin, tomorrow.
German media reported that the Administrative Court in Berlin banned five demonstrations that were to be organized by organizations and associations supporting the Palestinian people, under the pretext that they would involve “risks of incitement and violent acts.”
Palestine Speaks strongly criticized the ban on its demonstrations, describing the ruling as an "attack on the basic rights to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression."
The organization said in a statement that "the Berlin police ban on commemorative events restricts Palestinians and their supporters in Germany and prevents them from their basic rights and raises concerns on several levels according to the standards of a constitutional democratic state."
She explained that "the commemoration of the Nakba is an important way for Palestinians in Germany to remember the injustice suffered by their ancestors... and for supporters of the Palestinian people to take a stand in order to support their rights everywhere."
