While more students have registered at the Miesbach Gymnasium this year than in the previous year, registrations at the Realschule have fallen slightly.

Miesbach – After the surprisingly few new registrations in 2021, a similar number of students have enrolled at the Miesbach Gymnasium this year as in previous years.

With 131 new registrations, four of them in trial lessons (as of Friday), the school will welcome almost as many fifth graders in the new school year as in 2020. At that time there were 134. The dent in 2021 with only 118 new registrations was short-lived.

As a result, there will again be five new fifth grades instead of only four as in the previous year.

Principal Claudia Reiserer is satisfied with the numbers.

She is looking forward to the new students, she tells our newspaper when asked.

Even one more class is no problem for the already well-filled school building.

The rooms are large enough for class sizes of around 26 students.

"And we can also accommodate the additional class."

Reiserer cannot explain why more students are switching to grammar school again.

"You never know why that is," she says.

As reported, the decline had also surprised her predecessor as headmaster, Rainer Dlugosch, in the previous year.

He had named the uncertainty about the corona pandemic as a possible cause, had therefore assumed a temporary phenomenon and had predicted that the usual numbers would be registered again in the following years.

That prediction has now come true.

At the Gunetzrhainer secondary school in Miesbach, as of Friday, there are exactly 100 new fifth graders in the coming school year.

"These are the completely fixed registrations," confirms Claudia Reichelt, secretary of the secondary school.

It is not yet possible to say exactly how the numbers will ultimately develop.

Last year, for example, 109 registrations were certain at the end of the registration period.

Headmaster Thomas Kaspar estimated that the number would probably increase to around 120 as a result of children in trial lessons and students changing from middle school.

When asked, Reichelt reports that 124 children are now in fifth grade this school year.

According to the secretary, 100 registrations within the deadline are within the usual range and not surprising: at the beginning of the school year in September, just as many students could stay as in previous years.

In 2019, for example, there were 104 registered students.

Before the pandemic, the rush to high schools and secondary schools had increased.

This situation now appears to have eased.
