President Yitzhak Herzog represented Israel at the funeral of the former President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayd, which will take place this week in Abu Dhabi.
Herzog is expected to meet with the new president, Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed, to offer his condolences on behalf of the State of Israel and to congratulate him personally on his appointment as president, three senior Israeli officials said.

why is it important
This will be Herzog's second visit to Abu Dhabi since taking office.
Sheikh Muhammad was the architect of the secret relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates 25 years ago and he was the one who made the decision in July 2020 to sign a peace agreement with Israel.
