As the dpa explains, citing the Deggendorf police inspection on Saturday, the head of the supermarket locked the animal in a glass with air holes.
The man then gave the animal to the police.
According to an initial assessment by experts, the captured animal is a Brazilian web spider, also known as a banana spider.
In the meantime, the spider has been brought to a terrarium in the Tiergarten in Straubing.
According to the police, it is still unclear whether the spider is poisonous or non-toxic to humans.
An exact determination cannot be expected before Monday.
A similar incident happened just a few months ago in Osnabrück.
A supermarket employee was even bitten by a spider.
The search for the animal was called off after three hours.
