The price for the beer at the Wiesn is a popular topic of debate every year.

It's going to be really exciting this year – given the inflation, it could soar to unprecedented heights.

Munich – Now calculators are pulled out, heads are spinning.

After the city's economic committee decided on Tuesday about the admissions to the Wiesn 2022, innkeepers and showmen are now sitting over the price calculation.

And it's harder than ever.

After all: As our editors learned, the 14-euro mark for the beer at the Oktoberfest 2022 will probably not fall.

Oktoberfest 2022 in Munich: beer price causes wild speculation

As a reminder, in recent months there has been speculation that this year's beer could even cost over 14 euros.

It probably won't come to that.

Because, as Thomas Roiderer (Hackerzelt) says, for example: “We won’t reach 14 euros, I promise!” Or Christian Schottenhamel from the tent of the same name: “For us, 14 euros is a sound barrier.”

As we have learned, the innkeepers are already reckoning with the fact that a

liter of Oktoberfest beer

will be around or over 13 euros.

There is clarity for the hosts these days when negotiations with the breweries are being conducted.

13 euros: After the price in the large tents was between 10.80 and 11.80 euros in 2019, this means a price jump of a good two euros.

It will take a while before there is final clarity.

On May 23rd, the hosts have to submit their drink prices to the city.

The city will not publish the prices before mid-June.

Michael Käfer from Käfers Wiesn-Schänke speaks from the heart of the innkeepers when he says: "The calculation is becoming more difficult than ever.

It doesn't matter whether it's tent construction, staff or food and drink prices - there's nothing that won't be more expensive." The city's rent is also likely to increase.

"After all, the 2G rule will not come," says Roiderer happily.

"Otherwise we would have needed more staff to check." After a two-year break, there is a rush to the Oktoberfest tables.

How much does chicken cost at Oktoberfest 2022?

Calculating the chicken prices is even more difficult.

Although the hosts still have time for this, there is already a clear upward trend.

Toni Roiderer can fall back on experience from his inn in Straßlach.

Its suppliers have increased their prices by 34 percent since the beginning of the year.

"Of course we don't pass that on," says Roiderer.

But one thing is clear: the high energy and feed prices - after all, a large part of the grain for animal fattening comes from the Ukraine - also means that the costs for the Oktoberfest classic are skyrocketing.

Confectionery stands are worried about delivery bottlenecks

The confectionery stands are not only worried about rising prices, but also about whether they can sell anything at all because of the supply bottlenecks.

“I didn't get any more chocolate for my chocolate fruit in the second week of the Spring Festival,” reports Georg Martl.

He estimates the price of his roasted almonds at 4.50 euros (2019: four euros).

Wiesn 2022: This is what the rides look like

There is at least a cautious all-clear for the rides: After two years with practically no income, the showmen are courting every passenger and therefore hardly want to turn the price screw.

Otto Barth from Olympialooping, for example, is aiming for no or only a small increase to the ten euros of 2019.

And Egon Kaiser from the Bayern Tower even announces: “We will stick to the current eight euros.

After all, the Wiesn is a folk festival.”
