The Ukrainian justice began the first trial against a Russian soldier accused of war crimes, after the military offensive ordered by President Vladimir Putin in that country.
The litigation comes as the UN is considering allegations of serious abuses allegedly committed by Russian troops in Ukraine.
If found guilty he could face 10 to 15 years in prison or even life in prison.
