The registration phase for the fifth grades is over - and it is clear that there will probably be small classes with a manageable number of students at both the Tegernsee high school and the Gmund high school.

Tegernsee/Gmund

– The days of records at the Tegernsee Tal secondary school are apparently over for the time being.

Rector Tobias Schreiner registered 106 registrations for the coming fifth grades.

Among them are 16 children who still have to complete the trial lessons.

In the end, Schreiner estimates, the number of fifth graders will probably be around the same as last year.

At that time, 93 girls and boys started their secondary school careers in Gmund.

Realschule: number would be optimal to fill the building

"That fits well," says Schreiner about the current development.

With the newcomers, four “relatively small classes” could be formed in the coming school year.

If the number of registrations leveled off in this area, "that would be ideal for filling our building well".

As is well known, the extension of the secondary school was recently completed and put into operation.

Many families consciously send their children to secondary school

The number of new registrations is “a certain surprise” for Schreiner and his colleagues every year.

The grade point average in the transfer certificate brings with it an element of uncertainty that can hardly be calculated.

The question is: how many families whose children would actually be suitable for high school make a conscious decision to go to secondary school?

In Gmund, as in many rural secondary school locations in Upper Bavaria, this value is relatively high: Schreiner speaks of around 60 percent.

Schreiner's conclusion: Three to four entry classes are ideal for his school.

This number of students ensures that all four branches and all offers of the Gmund school can be maintained.

"Primal goal achieved": Gymnasium Tegernsee remains in three classes

The number of new registrations at the Gymnasium Tegernsee is not lavish, but still satisfactory for director Werner Oberholzner.

70 children (previous year: 74) want to start their high school careers there in the coming school year.

Means: The grammar school can form three small fifth grades.

For Oberholzner, the "primary goal" has thus been achieved: the three-track system at his school is guaranteed.

That wasn't always the case in the past: in 2014, the high school experienced a massive drop in student numbers.

The fact that the number of new registrations is still in the lower range is, in the headmaster's own words, no surprise.

This is due to the demographic development, says Oberholzner.

In view of the currently low number of fourth graders, he was "not at all dissatisfied" with the 70 registrations.

"That's not bad news," assures Oberholzner.

This is the situation in terms of new registrations at schools in the Holzkirchen and Miesbach regions.
