The Lebanese Army announced that its units have deployed around polling stations in various Lebanese regions and are working to erect temporary and permanent checkpoints and conduct foot and mechanized patrols to maintain the security of the parliamentary electoral process that begins tomorrow.
In a statement today, the Army Command called on the Lebanese to fully respond to the measures taken and to assume national responsibility for the success and completion of the electoral process.
For his part, Defense Minister Maurice Selim confirmed that the army is ready in all regions to prevent any operation that would prejudice the security and safety of the elections.
"We want Sunday to be a national and democratic day par excellence, and for people to exercise their electoral right without being subjected to any pressure or any breach of security," Salim said in a television interview.
Salim pointed out that the Central Operations Room in the Army Command is represented by the Internal Security Forces, Public Security and State Security through officers assigned by it.
