With the construction of the new fire station, many parking spaces at the old Murnau festival site will be eliminated.

However, an underground car park is too expensive.

The municipal council has now agreed on an alternative.

Murnau

– The new fire station in Murnau is still a long time coming.

But at least something is happening in terms of parking at the old fairground.

The municipality actually wanted to build an underground car park there.

A feasibility study was drawn up.

But it was found that the construction is possible, but involves considerable costs: around 10 to 15 million euros.

Since Murnau was unable to shoulder this, alternatives were sought during the feasibility study process.

A much cheaper option came into play: a three-storey car park on the north side of the old fairground.

"We see this as a solution that could be implemented," said Karl Steingruber, head of the municipal utilities (which are responsible for parking), at the meeting of the market town council.

The lowest level of the multi-storey car park could, according to the idea, be used by emergency services from the fire brigade or city hall employees.

The middle and top level would be for public, fee-based parking (including Rewe customers and rented long-term parking spaces).

Another advantage is that the planning for the construction of the fire station can run in parallel.

Brey: Too bad, but understandable

According to a written statement, Lorenz Brey (CSU), consultant for the municipal utilities, finds it “a shame, but absolutely understandable and sensible that the construction of an underground car park under the planned fire station is not being pursued further due to the enormous costs”.

You just have to be honest and say that neither the municipal utilities nor the Murnau market can afford the costs for an underground car park.

It is a pity "but for the reason that with the construction of the underground car park further projects in relation to the mobility guidelines could have been implemented".

For Brey, this includes reducing traffic looking for a parking space through efficient parking, calming traffic in sensitive areas such as the Murnau Bay or supporting innovative mobility offers that “could have been very well located in the underground car park”.

A few more steps on the profitability of a system car park: Such a construction is depreciated over a period of 33 years.

The monthly income per parking space is 60 euros, which results in annual income of 108,000 euros.

The maintenance costs are estimated at 20,000 euros per year.

In the end, the municipal council, with the dissenting votes of Vice Mayor Dr.

Julia Stewens (Free Voters) and Felix Burger (SPD) clear the way for the parking garage.

The administration is commissioned to prepare the award of the plans.

motion of the Greens

Stephanie Neumeir-Schrank, spokeswoman for the Greens, drew attention to an urgent application from her group, which has been available since December but has not yet been dealt with.

It is also about parking vehicles.

In order to be able to estimate the need for parking space and to be able to plan in the overall context, an integrative parking space concept is to be drawn up.

The paper is intended to answer the following questions: What is the forecast for parking space requirements for the years to come?

What is the statistical or empirical basis of this forecast?

What does an integrative parking space concept look like?

Which storage options are absolutely necessary?

Which ones can possibly be saved?

Which ones can be relocated if necessary?

The Greens' motion may be discussed as part of the mobility concept.

Fire brigade officer Michael Hosp (CSU) also had a concern: He asked that the new fire station be "quickly tackled".

In this sense he had expressed himself several times.
