Former Knesset member and founder of the Peres Center for Peace, Uri Savir, died yesterday (Friday) at the age of 69. Savir was an Israeli diplomat, publicist, and politician when he served in the 15th Knesset.
He was married to Aliza, who served as vice president and director of the Department of Education for Peace and Culture at the Peres Center for Peace, and the father of author Mia Savir.
He was probably one of the founders of the Peres Center for Peace in 1996, and until 1999 served as the center's director general. After retiring from the Knesset in 2001, he served as the center's honorary president. The Peres Center for Peace and Innovation "And the center's first director, he has been striving all his life for reconciliation among the peoples of the region," it was reported.
As a brilliant, smart and talented diplomat, he played a significant and important role alongside Shimon Peres in the effort to make peace in our region.
