The move will enable the imposition of sanctions and the desire to formulate a wage agreement that will prevent a large departure of teachers • Secretary General Ben David: "Finance officials are detached and do not see the catastrophic reality at all" • Ministry of Finance:

A month and a half before the end of the school year and the Teachers' Union, headed by Yaffa Ben-David, which represents the kindergarten teachers and teachers in the elementary and middle schools, announced today (Sunday) a labor dispute.

According to Ben-David, the labor dispute will allow them to impose sanctions in about two weeks.

The conflict was declared in protest of "dragging the feet of finance officials when it comes to formulating a wage agreement that will prevent the massive departure of teaching staff," the teachers' union explained.

As mentioned, the work agreement with the teachers is supposed to be renewed, but the teachers' union says that the deliberate dragging of the Ministry of Finance, in formulating a wage agreement, leads to a massive departure of teaching staff.

According to Yaffa Ben-Doi, this even jeopardizes the opening of the school year next year (2003): "If the Ministry of Finance continues to drag its feet, it will have to take organizational measures again this year to save the education system from collapsing."

Over the years, the Histadrut took advantage of the opening of the school year to improve teachers' salaries and threatened to go on strike.

The teachers' union says that contrary to what was customary in the past, now they will not wait until September 1 and begin organizational measures in the near future.

This is to accelerate the formation of the wage agreement, through which only the great departure can be dealt with.

The secretary general of the Teachers' Union, Yaffa Ben-David, said today that: "Although we warned last week, before the announcement of the conflict, the Ministry of Finance does not lift a finger and continues to smear the discussions as if there is no crisis in the education system.

All professionals agree that due to the massive departure of teaching staff it will not be possible to hold regular studies next year.

Everyone understands that only a benevolent wage agreement can prevent the collapse of the education system and only finance officials are lazy.

They are disconnected and do not see at all the catastrophic reality we face every day. "

Ben-David blamed this on the fact that the teaching profession is female Brurbo and added that "finance officials have become accustomed to paying women low wages and try to continue to establish discrimination against women in the education system over and over again.

"It is impossible to leave such an important issue to the attention of finance officials. The political echelon must intervene to prevent the crisis."

The Ministry of Finance's response: "We are sorry that the Teachers' Union repeatedly chooses to threaten to shut it down through dialogue and dialogue. The Ministry of Finance is currently holding discussions to formulate the state budget, in which significant budgets will be allocated to the education system. "At the beginning of their journey and in formulating mechanisms that will promote initiative, excellence and lead change. We will continue to negotiate matters as long as the teachers' union chooses to maintain it in order to bring about change and improvement of the education system."
