"Giving Up Material In Advance": Corona Damages Are Tested In Matriculation In Math Israel today

2022-05-15T20:19:47.652Z

After two years of studying in the shadow of an epidemic: 225,000 students will be tested in the coming days • Although they received relief, the examinees fear: "Gaps have been created, the level of stress has increased"

Students who have suffered a severe injury to Corona are approaching matriculation in mathematics.

About 225,000 students will try to pass the 5-3 unit questionnaires.

Despite the fact that corona morbidity has almost no trace in the education system, its effects from the last two years are still felt in the field.

In fact, twelfth-grade students who are approaching matriculation in mathematics experience the most difficulties.

The year in which the school was closed was full of closures, studies in zoom and social distance, and the current year (2002) was characterized by large waves of illness, so that even when the schools were open, some did not function because thousands of students and teachers became infected.

Dor Schneider, 17, a twelfth-grade student who went to 5 units: "We reach adulthood after three years of math studies were discontinuous. There were a lot of holes because of the corona, and what happened to me and a lot of other students was that gaps were created in the material He allegedly taught. "

The level of stress and anxiety increases

Not only that, but Dor testifies that he was even forced to "give up a question in advance on the test, because I know I am not ready enough and that the material does not sit well with me.

He added: "Matriculation in mathematics is perhaps the most stressful: it has an important matriculation image for the future, even in institutions of higher learning, and everyone invests more - which increases the level of stress and anxiety and can disrupt the results in the moment of truth."

On the exam he said: "I hope I have learned enough. I have practiced as much as I can, and I hope it will be good."

According to Prof. Edward Yaakovov, President of HIT Holon Institute of Technology, a mathematics expert: "The education system has shown consideration and made adjustments to meet the students in the matriculation exams, so I am sure that the recovery trend will also be reflected in student achievement this year."

Erosion reform

Meanwhile, it is not yet known how the corona will affect students' achievement and mathematical level, as they have received significant relief.

However, it seems that in recent years there has been no change in the number of students taking the 5-unit exam.

Data for the year 2001, which was the entire year of Corona, will only be published in a few months, but data for the year 2004 showed that only 15.6% of the students in the education system were entitled to a matriculation certificate with 5 units of mathematics.

This is also the case in the 2009-2010 school year, which stood at 15.5%, and a year earlier, 2009/10, also with 15.5% - that is, at least in the last three years for which data are available, no further progress is seen.

Withdrawal in 5 study units

However, a look at data from certain cities, some of which are considered cities with a strong population, shows that some cities are experiencing a decline in the number of students who approached 5 units between 2019 and 2020.

Thus, for example, in Kfar Vradim, a locality in Index 9, the number of students approaching 5 units of mathematics decreased from 36% to 25%.

It should be noted that in small localities there is not a large gap of students between the years, but the larger the locality means that fewer students approach 5 units of mathematics.

These students may have preferred to take the 4-unit exam to ensure their success.

On the other hand, it is important to say that there are localities that have shown a nice increase in the number of students who approached 5 math units in 1957, such as Dimona, Or Yehuda, Shlomi, Ma'ale Adumim and Dalit al-Carmel.

Eli Horowitz, CEO of the Trump Foundation, explains that the powerful cities that first started the move have undergone some erosion over the years.

Prepare equipment and think positive - tips for exam morning

  • Positive thinking and stress neutralization: The mental aspect of getting to the exam is no less important than the learning itself.

After investing in learning, it is important to reach the finish line confident and calm.

  • It is recommended not to come hungry for the exam - but also not to eat too much.

A small and nutritious dose of energy is recommended.

  • Organizing the equipment: Before you leave the house, make sure you have not forgotten anything: a proper calculator, pen, pencil, clock and reference pages.

  • Before diving into the first question - sit down, take a breath and take a few minutes to read the question form.
