Participants in the thirteenth scientific conference held by the General Commission for Scientific Agricultural Research and which began its work today in Al-Assad Library will discuss 120 applied research with the aim of developing the agricultural sector in Syria.
The participants in the three-day conference will discuss mechanisms for developing the agricultural sector through scientific research, creativity and innovation, in addition to presenting the results of the most important modern applied agricultural scientific research to specialists to benefit from observations, detect errors, develop research and benefit from it by applying it on the ground to solve agricultural problems.
The conference aims to secure the rights of researchers to the right of ownership of research results when they are presented to specialists and special committees in the field of research and to open horizons for new research and ideas through public and private discussions among the participants by exchanging experiences and opinions, developing work and its mechanisms, and motivating researchers to continue creativity and development.
The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, indicated in a speech that the research presented and the dialogue about it at the conference is a nucleus for developing the agricultural sector and localizing agricultural technology technologies and benefiting from, developing and improving the genetic assets in Syria, in addition to developing production, stressing that the conference’s goal is to develop the research group that it implemented Researchers over a year where they are discussed, approved and approved to be integrated programs and achieve integrated management of a group of products for a particular sector.
Minister Qatna pointed out that these researches are carried out in cooperation with relevant organizations, ministries and bodies to produce positive results from the conference that will form the nucleus of developing the agricultural sector and are consistent with the results of the agricultural sector forum approved by the government in 2021.
The Director of the General Authority for Scientific Agricultural Research, Dr. Magda Mufleh, explained in a speech that the conference, which brings together the ministry, universities, national, regional and international research centers, civil authorities, and the private sector to develop the agricultural sector, achieve food security, resource sustainability, and face challenges, foremost of which is climate change, is a forum for discussion, dialogue, exchange of experiences, and presentation of business results. Research that cost researchers time and effort in a time of limited materials and capabilities.
Dr. Mufleh indicated that the conference is the result of team work and efforts made by the participants, as 160 papers and working papers were received by the commission from universities, Syrian and Arab national bodies and regional organizations, and about 75 percent of them were accepted after taking into account the time, effort and available capabilities.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, pointed out, in a statement to reporters, the importance of the conference in strengthening partnership between the Ministries of Agriculture and Higher Education as an opportunity to exchange views and experiences in the field of agricultural research in line with the Ministry of Agriculture’s plan to move from theoretical to applied scientific research that serves the agricultural sector.
The themes of the conference include a presentation of research on field crops, plant protection, horticulture, natural resources, cotton, social and economic studies, livestock, biotechnologies, food technology and genetics.
The conference was attended by the President of the General Union of Farmers Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim, the Syndicate of Agricultural Engineers, Engineer Abdul Kafi Khalaf, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations “FAO” Mike Robson, the Director of the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands “ACSAD” Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, and the representative of ICARDA in Syria Dr. Majd Jamal and Secretary of the Branch Damascus to the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party Husam al-Samman and the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Jihad Kanaan, a number of members of the People's Assembly and university presidents.
