The Magistrate's Court in Haifa today (Sunday) sentenced Yosef Baor, a driving instructor from the Krayot, to nine months in community service for indecent acts on a high school student during classes.

In addition, the court sentenced Baor to six months' probation and NIS 20,000 in compensation to the complainant.

The trial was held behind closed doors and the affair that took place in 2017 was published only last year.

"Go on with your life, you start your adult life. Open a new page," Judge Maria Ficus Bogdanov turned to Tali (pseudonym), the complainant who sat in the courtroom next to her mother and father, after reading the sentence during which she burst into tears.

"The sentence is appropriate to the circumstances," said attorney Tami Ullman, who represented the driving instructor with attorney Shahaf Ullman.

"He expressed remorse for his actions and took full responsibility for his actions."

The complainant said in response that she had left the story behind.

"From now on I do not care about anything anymore. I did mine. I just hope he does not learn more."

But the state will not ban it from him, and the state prosecutor's office has not even asked the court to do so, since "a survey found that his danger is low."

Baor was convicted in a plea deal between Ullman and Ullman and the Haifa District Attorney, Avi or Zach, while the teacher, Baor, a 75-year-old resident of Kiryat Motzkin, continued to lead his life as usual during the trial. Tali, who was the one who plucked up the courage and complained against him, agreed, but noted that it hurts her that he continues to teach driving. Lawyers countered that "Every application is to revoke his license, so there is no reason to act in this direction at this stage."

"It hurts me to see him like that - after I complain and after I confront him - he continues to teach girls, and I must not say anything because it will complicate me," Tali shared.

"It hurts to recreate all these events and see how stupid I was, that I did not realize it before. It led me to a lot of anxieties. I stopped being who I was, I felt old Tali was dead and Tali was alive alive. I got into a situation where I had to get up and learn to do all sorts of things. Less innocent, and to understand that I am no longer the same innocent girl as I used to be. "

Meanwhile, last week, Nahariya police investigators arrested a 62-year-old driving instructor from Kibbutz Matzuva on suspicion of committing indecent acts on his 17-year-old student, a resident of Shlomi.

His detention was extended twice in the Magistrate's Court in the Krayot.

It is difficult to estimate how common the phenomenon is because the Israel Police stated that "the requested figure cannot be segmented."

It should be noted that in August last year, another indictment was filed against driving instructor Moti Cohen, 52, from Ma'ale Adumim, for indecent acts on six of his students.

According to the indictment, during driving lessons, he stroked his students, in two of which he even reached intimate places.

The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office stated that Cohen had performed what was attributed to him when a lawsuit had already been filed against him for an indecent act on another girl as part of driving lessons he taught.

A few months earlier, in March 2021, an indictment was filed against driving instructor Kobi Rubinger, 61, from Jerusalem for indecent assault on a student.

In December 2021, in a reasoned verdict spread over 63 pages, the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court convicted driving instructor Moti Eliezer, 55, of Ma'ale Adumim, on seven charges of indecent acts and eight charges of sexual harassment.
