In a qualitative initiative for vocational and technical education in As-Suwayda Governorate, Engineer Mahmoud Abu Assi, a teacher at the Intermediate Industrial Institute, in cooperation with a number of his colleagues and the management of the Martyr Zahr Abu Assaf Vocational High School, managed to maintain and repair five knitting sewing machines and return them to service after they were coordinating in the secondary warehouse, benefiting from His specialization is in mechanical engineering (textile machinery).

The five machines that were returned to service and fully reconstructed, according to Eng. Abu Assi, were a coordinator in the secondary warehouse years ago, after the abolition of teaching the knitting craft in the women’s arts curriculum more than 15 years ago, pointing out that the restoration of the machines came from the importance of the textile sector in providing job opportunities. For a wide segment of young people of both sexes, leading to the establishment of a small project to sew knitwear by high school teachers and students.

Abu Assi indicated that he employed his experience in returning knitting machines to work in cooperation with his fellow engineers, Ghassan Abdel Malik and Omar Al-Samman, the secondary director of Fadwa Ballan, and each of the teachers, Rasha Hatoum, Najat Al-Andari and Raeda Al-Hajjar. The role of the Suwayda Education Directorate in providing facilities to implement the initiative and purchase the necessary parts, in addition to purchasing the necessary wool until the machines are ready and put into service.

The Assistant Director of Education for Vocational and Technical Education, Eng. Bassam Hammoud Awwad, explained that this initiative comes in the context of Law No. 38 of 2021 on vocational secondary education, which contributes to transforming schools and vocational institutes into training centers and production workshops to employ teachers and students, achieve self-sufficiency and meet the needs of the labor market from various Professions and raising the level of graduates from a scientific and practical point of view, in order to contribute to supporting the production process and achieving sustainable development.

Eng. Awwad indicated that the initiative is expandable, and an independent workshop has been established in the Martyr Zahr Abu Assaf Professional Secondary School to repair an additional number of coordinated sewing machines that are currently out of service. With the private sector to discharge machinery production.

Head of the Department of Vocational Education in the Directorate of Education, Eng. Ghassan Abdul Malik, indicated that the Directorate is seeking to maintain sewing machines in 16 vocational schools in the governorate, in order to revive this profession in vocational schools.
