Deputy Minister Avir Kara (right) demands that MK Ofer Kasif (joint list) be removed from the Knesset. Kara sent a letter to Knesset committee chairman Nir Orbach demanding that a debate be convened to remove Kasif.
In his letter, Kara explained the request: "Last Friday, MK Ofer Kasif arrived to support a demonstration by foreign elements against the State of Israel in the southern Hebron Mountains.
The demonstration was lawfully attended by Israeli police forces who took care to prevent disturbances and maintain order.
"On his way to the demonstration, MK Kasif first intentionally hit a police officer in the head. The entire incident was documented. For the avoidance of doubt, the MK's immunity does not allow for violence."

Kara also wrote: "MK Kasif's actions once again prove his anti-Israel behavior, his lack of awareness of the security forces, and his support for terrorist organizations working for an armed struggle against the State of Israel, its institutions and its representatives.
In addition, Kasif incites racism against Jews by raising blatant anti-Semitic allegations, which meet international definitions of anti-Semitism, such as the IHRA and others. "
According to the Basic Law of the Knesset, in order to hold a discussion in the Knesset committee on the removal of Kasif, Kara must obtain 70 signatures from Knesset members, including 10 MKs from the opposition. For the appointment to take effect, the Knesset plenum will have to approve it by a majority of 90 MKs.
On the face of it, it seems that this is a move that will encounter difficulties already in the Knesset committee when it is estimated that Meretz members will not support the request for dismissal.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that there are 90 MKs from the opposition and coalition factions who will be happy to see Kasif outside the Knesset.
