The Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in As-Suwayda Governorate initially estimated the production of about 128 tons of lentils during the current season.
The Assistant Director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Engineer Alaa Shehayeb, said in a statement to SANA reporter today that harvesting operations for the lentil crop started in some locations and will continue manually, successively, in other locations until the beginning of next month.
Shehayeb explained that the directorate encourages the cultivation of the lentil crop due to its economic feasibility and the presence of demand for it in the markets.
The governorate's production of lentils during the last season amounted to 48 tons, and the cultivated areas were 5130 dunums.
