A well-known organic wholesaler from Gießen has got into financial difficulties.
For the employees, wages and salaries are only secured for a few weeks.
Gießen-Lützellinden - The organic wholesaler BiUno, also known in the region as Phoenix Natural Products, has filed for bankruptcy.
The local court in Gießen then appointed lawyer Michael Lojowsky from Schultze & Braun as provisional insolvency administrator.
Lojowsky and his team are on site and are getting an overview of the situation at the company's headquarters in Lützellinden's Rechtenbacher Hohl industrial park.
BiUno, founded as Phoenix a good 40 years ago, is known as a wholesaler beyond the borders of Central Hesse and stands for certified organic goods of premium quality, according to a statement from the insolvency administrator.
Customers included many retailers, chain stores, delivery service companies and canteen kitchens.
As usual, they could order from the range, which includes over 10,000 items, many of which come from the region, via their merchandise management system or in the online shop,” writes Lojowsky.
Business operations continue in full.
Gießen: Major customer jumps off, organic wholesaler in trouble
One cause of BiUno's economic difficulties is a significant drop in orders due to the end of cooperation with a major customer.

Lojowsky and Managing Director Mohamed El Ouariachi informed the 85 employees about the situation and how to proceed.

Insolvency administrator: Restructuring of BiUno in Giessen possible
The insolvency administrator is now examining the options for restructuring and intends to start a targeted search for potential investors in the near future.
"We've already received initial inquiries," says Lojowsky.
If a suitable partner is found, a restructuring of the company is possible.
BiUno only moved into its modern logistics center in Lützellinden on a 14,500 square meter floor space around a year and a half ago.
The commercial space on the northern edge of the Rechtenbacher Hohl industrial park was originally developed by the logistics company VGP, which took over a large area in the US depot.
Phoenix, which moved from Rosbach to Gießen, then settled on the entire VGP site.
