According to party leader Lars Klingbeil, the SPD is ready for coalition talks in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the first projections, the outcome of the state elections is not yet certain, said Klingbeil on Sunday on ZDF.
One thing is certain: "Black and yellow were voted out tonight." Now the count must show whether red-green and thus a change of policy is possible.

Klingbeil also made it clear on ARD that the SPD hopes for the formation of a red-green state government, despite the historically poor result.
"We have often seen that governments are formed from second place," said the SPD leader.
