Both Finland and Sweden, which are preparing to apply to join the Atlantic Alliance, are invited to this meeting called by the German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, to discuss the conflict in Ukraine with their partners.
The meeting comes just one day after Turkey, a member of NATO, has expressed its reservations to the incorporation of both countries, which it accuses of giving support to armed organizations such as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Both Haavesto and Ann Linde, the Swedish Foreign Minister, confirmed that they will meet with Ankara's representative, Mevlut Cavusoglu, to resolve "misunderstandings" on the sidelines of the meeting.
Turkey has been a member of the Alliance since 1952 and for now it is the only partner that has publicly expressed its opposition to enlargement with the two Nordic capitals.
The accession of new countries requires the unanimity of all members of the organization.
Cavusoglu described as "unacceptable and outrageous" what he considers the support of potential new NATO members for armed organizations such as the PKK.

"These are issues that we obviously need to address with our allies in NATO and with those countries," Cavusoglu justified.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who was unable to attend the meeting in Berlin after testing positive for coronavirus, has assured that the organization has open arms to welcome the two new additions.
The accession procedure would be accelerated if they finally submit the application.

El G-7 avisa de que “no reconocerá nunca” las fronteras que Putin quiere imponer por la fuerza

Los socialdemócratas de Finlandia se suman al apoyo unánime a la OTAN

Putin califica el posible ingreso de Finlandia en la OTAN de "error"

Los países miembros del G-7 “no reconocerán nunca las fronteras” que Moscú intenta modificar con la fuerza, según ha anunciado la ministra de Exteriores de Alemania, Annalena Baerbock, en una rueda de prensa tras la reunión de los ministros de Exteriores del grupo con Josep Borrell, el alto representante de la Unión Europea para Asuntos Exteriores y Política Territorial, en Weissenhaus, en Alemania. “Esta no es nuestra guerra, es la guerra de [Vladímir] Putin, pero si tenemos una responsabilidad”, ha dicho Baerbock. “Lo que hagamos y, sobre todo, lo que no hagamos, se va a dejar notar muchos años en el mundo”, ha añadido.
Rusia corta el suministro de electricidad a Finlandia. RAO Nordic Oy, filial europea de la energética rusa Inter RAO, ha cortado el suministro de electricidad a Finlandia “por problemas de pago” a partir de este sábado, tal y como había indicado ayer la compañía en su página web y ha confirmado hoy el operador finlandés, Fingrid. La electricidad rusa representa apenas un 10% del consumo del país escandinavo, según Fingrid, que ha asegurado que la red nacional no se verá afectada.
El Kremlin asegura que no tiene “intenciones hostiles” hacia Suecia y Finlandia ante su posible ingreso en la OTAN. Moscú ha alertado este sábado de que “responderá de manera adecuada” si la OTAN despliega su arsenal nuclear cerca de la frontera con Rusia, ha anunciado el viceministro de Exteriores, Alexander Grushko, según recogen las agencias locales. No obstante, el Kremlin asegura que no tiene “intenciones hostiles” hacia Suecia y Finlandia ante su posible ingreso en la OTAN, aunque recalca que estos países nórdicos no tienen razones “reales” para adherirse a la Alianza.
La Fiscalía de Ucrania denuncia 227 menores muertos y 420 heridos desde el comienzo de la invasión. La Fiscalía de Menores de Ucrania ha denunciado que al menos 227 niños han muerto y más de 420 han resultado heridos en ataques perpetrados por Rusia desde el comienzo de su invasión del país, el pasado 24 de febrero, hasta este sábado.

El presidente finlandés habla con Putin del posible ingreso de su país en la OTAN
El presidente finlandés, Sauli Niinisto, ha mantenido este sábado una conversación telefónica con su homólogo ruso, Vladímir Putin, en la que ha abordado el posible ingreso de su país en la OTAN, según informa la agencia rusa Interfax. Moscú calificó ayer la posible adhesión de Helsinki a la Alianza como una amenaza a la que respondería. (Reuters)

La ONU eleva a 6,1 millones los refugiados que han huido de Ucrania
Los ciudadanos ucranios que han huido de su país desde el inicio de la invasión rusa el 24 de febrero suman 6,11 millones. Según las cifras que actualiza a diario la Agencia de Naciones Unidas para los Refugiados (Acnur), en las últimas 24 horas se han registrado más de 30.000 salidas desde Ucrania.
Más de 1,7 millones de ucranios han vuelto a entrar en su país, aunque Acnur subraya que en muchos casos se podría tratar de movimientos pendulares (gente que entra y sale a menudo) que no evidencian en ningún caso un flujo estable de retornados.
Polonia se mantiene como el principal país de acogida de este éxodo, con más de 3,3 millones de entradas, seguido de Rumania con 901.000 (muchos de ellos tras pasar antes por Moldavia), de Rusia con 800.000 y de Hungría con casi 600.000. A estos refugiados deben sumarse los desplazados internos dentro de Ucrania por el conflicto, que según Naciones Unidas superan los 8 millones. En total, más de 14 millones de personas, aproximadamente la tercera parte de la población nacional, ha tenido que dejar sus hogares en menos de tres meses, lo que lo convierte en una de las crisis de refugiados que más rápidamente han evolucionado en las últimas décadas.
