In view of the strong result in the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, CDU leader Friedrich Merz sees his party's course confirmed at the federal level.
"This #NRW state election was also a federal political mood test," wrote the Christian Democrat on Twitter on Sunday evening.
"The @CDU is back, our forward course has been confirmed."
Berlin – Merz congratulated CDU top candidate Hendrik Wüst on the “outstanding result” in North Rhine-Westphalia.
So far, Wüst has been prime minister in the most populous federal state.
However, the previous CDU/FDP coalition no longer has a majority.
It is unclear who will rule in the future.
According to the projection figures, several coalitions are possible.
