White sand and turquoise water: Corsican beaches have nothing to envy to the islands at the end of the world. Overview of the most idyllic seaside locations.

Ah, the beaches of Corsica… Often rightly compared to those of exotic destinations, they are literally "eye-popping".

All different, they have two essential ingredients in common: white sand and turquoise waters.

Wow effect guaranteed!

Halfway between

Porto-Vecchio

and

Bonifacio

, imagine a cove in the shape of a shell, perfectly drawn, closed by two peninsulas covered with maquis which advance towards each other, like the clasp of a necklace. .

Between the two, a strip of white sand bathed in shallow turquoise waters, and bordered by pine forest.

In summer, this painting is decorated with sailboats at anchor in the bay.

With the exception of a straw hut, no dwelling disfigures this dream landscape.

Only problem: access by a narrow road a little difficult.

Go

T10 road between Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio, then D158 on the right, towards Suartone.

Paid parking in season.

Palombaggia (South Corsica)

Palombaggia is a 3 km ribbon of sand licked by a crystal clear sea.

On the podium of dream beaches, Palombaggia can claim to occupy the first place.

"Idyllic", the adjective seems very weak when you discover this emblem of the natural beauties of southern Corsica, near

Porto-Vecchio

.

Fringed with a bright green pine forest, it unrolls a ribbon of white sand over 3 km, punctuated by rocky outcrops and licked by a crystal clear sea.

The sunsets are splendid there when the rocks partly submerged in the blue water stream with tawny hues and the

Cerbicale Islands

stand out in Chinese shadows on the horizon.

Go

From Porto-Vecchio, take the T10 south then turn left towards the D859.

Saleccia (Upper Corsica)

Difficult to access, Saleccia beach has to be earned.

White sand over 1 km and translucent bottoms that look like they've been copied and pasted from a Seychelles landscape... You never get tired of this tropical-looking marvel, bordered by a dune cordon dotted with marram grass and pine trees from Aleppo.

It is the perfect beach to spend a day relaxing or swimming.

La Saleccia is worth it: its access by car, by a bad track through the

Agriates desert

, is difficult.

A coastal path connects it to other sublime stretches of sand, including

Lodo beach

to the east (in 45 minutes) and

Ghignu beach

to the west, which is less crowded.

Go

From

the hamlet of Casta

, on the D81, a 12 km stony track descends to the beach.

You can save the car journey by taking one of the sea shuttles from Saint-Florent (www.lepopeye.com, 35 minutes).

Cupabia (South Corsica)

More discreet than other beaches in the South, Cupabia is divided in two by a rocky outcrop.

She does not have the makings of a star, and yet she bewitches all who approach her.

Long stretch of fine sand which offers itself as a reward to the north of the

Gulf of Valinco

, less ostensibly sublime than the beaches of southern Corsica, Cupabia enchants with its authenticity and tranquility.

A rocky outcrop separates it in two, with different atmospheres: total calm in the north (accessible on foot only), while the southern part is more family-friendly.

Go

From the village of

Serra-di-Ferro

, drive a few kilometers north on the D155 then turn left.

The Ostriconi (Upper Corsica)

The Ostriconi beach is a beautiful diamond in the rough, still preserved from the crowds.

Between

Balagne

and the

Agriates desert

, this beach creates a surprise.

At the mouth of a valley, you hardly expect to find this beautiful rough diamond, relatively protected from the crowds, even in high season.

Savor this magnificent expanse of sand and high dunes between which meander inlets bordered by reedbeds, against a backdrop of steep hills.

On the other hand, the shade is rare there.

Note: swimming can be dangerous here due to the presence of currents and often powerful waves.

Go

Follow the T30 which connects

Corte

to

Calvi

then, at the height of the

Village of L'Ostriconi

, take the road which runs along the Ostriconi valley and ends in a cul-de-sac.
