The youngest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton will one day be given a title that the Cambridges may not be particularly happy about - namely that of Duke of York.

London – The awarding of titles in the British royal family has a long tradition and follows strict rules.

As the second-born son of Prince William (39) and Kate Middleton (40), Prince Louis (4) would one day be entitled to the Duchy of York.

Since Prince Andrew (62), the current Duke of York, has not exactly covered himself in fame in the recent past, the title has had a bitter aftertaste.

Prince Louis: Does he have to take over Prince Andrew's disreputable title?

Prince Louis has just celebrated his fourth birthday and has probably given little thought to his future in the British royal family.

His role of all things could one day trigger heated discussions within the Royal Family.

Louis' older brother Prince George (8) is likely to inherit the crown and become King of England sometime in the distant future after his grandfather Prince Charles (73) and father Prince William.

Louis' sister Princess Charlotte (7), as the eldest daughter of the future monarch, may later adorn herself with the title of Princess Royal.

An actually honorable title is also planned for Prince Louis, which has fallen into disrepute in recent years.

As the second son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Louis would be entitled to the Duchy of York if his father ascended the throne and the current Duke of York died.

The reigning Duke of York has been Prince Andrew since 1986.

However, due to the allegations of abuse against the 63-year-old, his actually glorious rating now has mainly negative connotations.

Prince Louis: Prince William will have to come up with a solution

It is not yet clear whether Prince Louis could actually politely decline the title.

Presumably, however, Prince William and his wife Kate will work to ensure that their youngest offspring is not associated with Andrew's misconduct - even if only by a title.

After all, the head of state has the last word.

William had made his dislike of his uncle clear on many occasions in the past.

He is said to have even called Prince Andrew a threat to the monarchy.

At the latest when the 39-year-old is king one day, he will surely come up with a solution to spare his son the shame of having to take over the York title.
