The Chairman of the Defense and Security Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation Council, Viktor Bondarev, announced that if Finland joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Russia would be forced to strengthen its forces deployed on the borders of this country.

Bondarev said in his telegram channel today: “There is a common history and a land border of more than 1.2 thousand kilometers between Finland and Russia. Russia,” noting that Finland's intention to join the alliance is a matter of concern, not from a military point of view, but from a geopolitical point of view.

The Russian senator warned that the United States is seeking to turn Finland's territory as a launching pad for NATO maneuvers, provocations, testing weapons and deploying an American military base, blaming Washington for putting pressure on Finland and Sweden to push them to join NATO.

Finland and Sweden officially announced their intention to apply to join NATO, while Russia strongly criticized the accession plans, warning that in this case it would have to take military technical response measures.
