The through-road through Schwabniederhofen in the Saliterweg section to the southern end of the expansion including the mini roundabout at the Burg-Oberdorfstrasse crossing point is a done deal.

Schwabniederhofen – Measures to reduce speeds were discussed 50 years ago.

Nothing was implemented.

At the Monday meeting of the municipal council, Bertram Mooser from the engineering office of the same name in Kaufbeuren presented various options for expanding the road and a mini roundabout.

The focus was on the 220 meter long road from the town entrance in the direction of "Janser" and the mini roundabout, which leads into the new road at the Burg-Oberdorfstrasse crossing point.

The road that used to meander from the town entrance through half the town to the village fountain would then be history.

The road construction expert from Kaufbeuren said they were looking for a way to speed things up.

Tens of mini tops have been built so far, all with positive results.

And always there, where a normal roundabout had no place.

Like now in Schwabniederhofen.

“We take this risk”

Andreas Lenker from the state building authority in Weilheim approved the planned mini roundabout.

It conforms to knots and is therefore in the right place.

Also because the municipality pays for the costs of the mini roundabout.

Should it be necessary to dismantle the mini-roundabout due to the high number of accidents, this would already be settled.

The municipality would have to bear the costs of the dismantling.

"We're taking this risk," said Mayor Andreas Kögl.

However, the Weilheim-Schongau district will then have to pay for further necessary speed reduction measures.

Andreas Lenker fears that the roundabout will not be recognized immediately.

The noise is also amplified.

Bertram Mooser said that he would also prefer a normal roundabout, but that there was just not enough space here.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

Municipal councilor Helmut Horner thinks that the mini roundabout is "the most sensible option".

Local councilor Andreas Nuscheler is skeptical about the mini roundabout.

He's thinking of the heavy traffic from the gravel works.

“You should talk to the residents.” Local councilor Bernhard Schöner, meanwhile, said he was having a hard time approving the project.

“Did you ask the people of Schwabniederhofen?” he wanted to know.

One has.

They were shown the plan in advance, said Kögl.

Everyone agreed that the new road and the mini roundabout were necessary.

Additional costs are covered by the municipality

The additional costs for expanding the entrance to Lindenweg with the associated widening of the sidewalk in Lindenweg and the traffic island/crossing aid at Saliterweg will also be borne by the municipality.

The municipality was commissioned, in cooperation with the Mooser engineering office, to tender for road construction, sidewalks, rainwater and waste water channels as well as the water pipe promptly after receipt of the funding approval from the Upper Bavarian government.

The schedule is for work to start no later than October 1, 2022.

Completion date should be September 30, 2023.
