Team Frieden: Thousands started at the charity run of the Bellevue di Monaco in Munich

Thousands of Munich residents ran on Sunday morning for a good cause on the Altstadtring, which was closed for this purpose.

Munich runs for a good cause.
More than 6500 people have officially registered for the Giro di Monaco.
Such was the day with the sports friends Stiller, Willy Astor, Paul Breitner and Co.

– It's early Sunday morning
on the streets in the
Glockenbachviertel
usually not too busy.
This Sunday, however, thousands of Munich residents in dark blue jerseys headed towards
Blumenstrasse
to walk 5.4 kilometers together on the Altstadtring.
In doing so, they set a clear signal for peace.
The cultural center
Bellevue di Monaco
organized the charity run.
For most of the participants, whether prominent or not, it was not necessarily the personal best that counted on Sunday, but one thing above all: doing good.

More than 6500 people
were officially
registered
on Sunday morning , according to organizer Till Hofmann.
But he guessed that in the end more runners came.
The boss of the Bellevue di Monaco enthused: "We were incredibly lucky with the weather.

The band from Germering got the runners in the mood for the 5.4 kilometer route.
“Peace, encountering one another and standing up for something are incredibly important issues of our time.
You can tell that people care about it," said
Rüdiger Linhof
, bassist for Sportfreunde Stiller, after their performance.

Munich: Charity run with the Ukraine flag, in costume or together with work colleagues
Carola and Josef Voglhuber brought a Ukraine flag with them for the 5.4 kilometers.

A little further towards the starting line, a group of young women posed for a photo - four work colleagues in a victory pose.
Beside them: a butterfly on high stilts.
Almut Münster from Munich
donned the special costume for the
benefit event : "I wanted to support the whole thing here."

Among them
Willy Astor
: "You have to try to get something moving."
Soccer World Champion Paul Breitner
also came to the charity run in a dark blue T-shirt.
He had not set himself a time target.
"It's about enjoying the run and taking the opportunity to help with simple means and do something good."

Actor Stephan Zinner
also remained modest in his ambitions: "Get through".
The Olympic idea is more in the foreground.
"I'm not a runner, I'm there for the purpose - we have to drum for it, you, we, all."

The countdown to the start was in German, English and Ukrainian
Mayor and patron Dieter Reiter (SPD)
took over the countdown to the start
.
“Thousands of people came.
Congratulations to the Bellevue di Monaco," he said previously.

Reiter received support from Louis Gomez, a resident of the Bellevue di Monaco, and the Ukrainian Taya Vinohradova.
The counting down was not only in German, but also in Ukrainian and English.
Then the crowd started moving.
Cheering and clapping.
Always
along the
Altstadtring .
Cars were not allowed to drive there for the duration of the run.
Just 15 minutes later, Georgios Pournaras, a former athletics professional, was the first to cross the finish line.

Fundraising goal of the Giro di Monaco was already reached before the run
The proceeds go to
refugees from war zones
.
For example, part of the profit should also go to a partner organization that takes care of refugees from Ukraine in Poland.
The
donation goal was initially
set at 125,000 euros.
The initiative cracked the sum even before the actual run.
"The goal for donations is open-ended," said organizer Till Hofmann from Bellevue di Monaco.
It was not yet clear on Sunday how high the final amount was.
